हालांकि, शाहीन अफरीदी ने शुरुआती झटके देते हुए बांग्लादेशी कप्तान के फैसले को गलत साबित किया। वहीं शाहीन अफरीदी ने इस मुकाबले में अपने नाम एक खास रिकॉर्ड भी दर्ज किया। वह सबसे तेज 100 वनडे विकेट लेने वाले पाकिस्तानी गेंदबाज बने।
वहीं श्रीलंका क्रिकेट के सबसे बड़े प्रशंसक अंकल पर्सी का 87 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हो गया, जिस पर श्रीलंकाई क्रिकेट हस्तियों समेत अन्य ने शोक व्यक्त किया और उनको श्रद्धांजलि दी।
इसके अलावा 30 अक्टूबर को वर्ल्ड कप के खेले गए 30वें मुकाबले में अफगानिस्तान ने श्रीलंका को हराते हुए टूर्नामेंट में अपनी तीसरी जीत दर्ज की। इस पर अफगान टीम की जमकर तारीफ हो रही है।
