क्राइस्टचर्च के मैदान में इस सीरीज का दूसरा टेस्ट मैच खेला गया। जिसमें मेजबान टीम ने टॉस जीतने के बाद पहले बल्लेबाजी करने का फैसला किया। जिसके बाद टीम के कप्तान टॉम लेथम के बल्ले से जहां 252 रनों की शानदार पारी देखने को मिली वहीं डीवोन कॉन्वे ने अपने फॉर्म को जारी रखते हुए इस टेस्ट मैच में भी 109 रनों की बेहतरीन पारी खेल दी। जिसकी बदौलत कीवी टीम ने अपनी पहली पारी को 6 विकेट के नुकसान पर 521 रन बनाते हुए घोषित कर दी।
बांग्लादेश को करना पड़ा फॉलोआन का सामना
कीवी टीम के बड़े स्कोर के मुकाबले बांग्लादेश को अपने बल्लेबाजों से भी पहली पारी में बेहतर प्रदर्शन की उम्मीद थी। लेकिन ट्रेंट बोल्ट की शानदार स्विंग करती हुई गेंदों का सामना करना बांग्ला टाइगर्स के लिए काफी मुश्किल भरा काम साबित हुआ। जिसके चलते टीम अपनी पहली पारी में सिर्फ 126 रन बनाकर सिमट गई और उसे फॉलोआन का सामना करना पड़ा। न्यूजीलैंड की तरफ से इस पारी में ट्रेंट बोल्ट ने 5 जबकि टिम साउदी ने 3 और काइल जेमिसन ने 2 विकेट हासिल किए थे।
लिटन दास की शतकीय पारी लेकिन पारी की हार से नहीं बच सकी बांग्लादेश की टीम
फॉलोआन का सामना करने वाली बांग्लादेश की टीम के लिए इस मैच में वापसी करना काफी कठिन काम दिख रहा था। जिसमें टीम के ऊपर पारी की हार का खतरा भी मंडरा था। हालांकि दूसरी पारी में भी बल्लेबाजी में कोई खास सुधार देखने को नहीं मिला, जिसमें लिटन दास के 102 रनों की शतकीय पारी को छोड़ दिया जाए तो बाकी कोई भी बल्लेबाज अधिक समय तक पिच पर टिकने में नाकाम ही साबित रहा है। बांग्लादेश की टीम अपनी दूसरी पारी में 278 रन बनाकर सिमट गई जिससे उससे पारी और 117 रनों हार का सामना करना पड़ा। कीवी टीम के लिए दूसरी पारी में काइल जेमिसन ने 4, नील वैगनर ने 3 जबकि डेरिल मिचल, टिम साउदी और रॉस टेलर ने 1-1 विकेट हासिल किया।
